Fish and Sleep

Antartic Fur Seal
Antarctic Fur Seal

Can fish sleep
it’s hard to tell
or do they rest
in their aquatic shell.

Do they close
their tired eyes
without eyelids
how do they hide.

Their neocortex
is not that great
so sleep they don’t
they rest instead.

In a trance like
meditative state
process memories
before it’s too late.

Safe from predators
under logs or rocks
float adrift or
into sand sink.

A Note to You and Me.

We’ve written this poem for one of Kam’s questions –  Do fish sleep.  To read the post here is the link:  do fish sleep?

Thanks for reading.  As always please let us know if you like our efforts or have anything to add, we’d appreciate it.

Why did we choose a seal? To be absolutely frank, how do you show a resting fish? So, seals eat fish, a seal on a beach, there we go.  Fuzzy logic, maybe.  Suggestions welcome! X

Very fuzzy logic, Mum. Was the fish asleep when it got swallowed?

Giggle, I like it! Perhaps he was asleep when he got swallowed, should have been resting he’d have been a little more alert!

PS, I’ll ask Kam tomorrow for his thoughts as he’s doing his best to stay awake at the moment and we don’t need any excuses. X

OK this time. I’ll expect an answer, though.

        ELouise,
Kam thinks the seal is asleep because he ate too many fish and had a full tummy. The fish must have been resting because if they were awake they’d have got away quickly.
It took a while but, we got there!
